Lake Atitlan news
Have you ever been to a Guatemalan cemetary on the Day of the Dead? It is fascinating and instructive. Stephanie Riegel has captured the best of it for us. We have more story, and another pix. But don't miss the exhibit.
Our neighbor, Ohioan Stephanie "Stevie" Riegel has gone into Guatemala's final resting places on the Dead's own day (Nov. 1). Don't worry, though, she didn't go there to stay. Very much still among the living, she went with her analog camera to record for us the most whimisical and poignant of "grave art."
The Day of the Dead, of course, is when traditional Guatemalans remember and revisit their departed loved ones. This commemoration takes some interesting forms, not always understood by outsiders.
"Grave Art" is going to be what one of Stevie's biggest fans might call one big
, honkin' show, with a one big
honkin' duration: the entire month of November. But that is no reason to miss the inauguration at Panajachel's Galería, at 5:00 pm.
