Fish Farm

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
|
These rafts floating in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala are actually raising Tilapia for the local restaurants in Panajachel.
The fish eat mostly algea that grows in the lake, and some corn. The tourists in Panajachel get to eat fresh, organic fish, even though they are 100 miles from the ocean.
Tilipia are also farmed in Santiago Atitlan bay, which is to the left of the big volcano in the distance.
Lake Atitlan has very clean water. The fish farms help to keep it that way, and provide one more incentive to maintain the health of the lake.
