Solola, Guatemala market

A trip to the Solola market is an unforgetable experience. Solola is a Cachikel city of about 80,000, mostly Mayan people. It is the capital of the province of the same name, and has a breath-taking view of Lake Atitlan and its volcanoes.

The colorful local folks come to Solola from all over the area to do their weekly shopping. This market sees few tourists.

When you see a few normal-sized foreigners, you can then judge how small the Mayans are. People of different villages are identified by the colors and patterns woven into their clothing.

Although thousands of people pass thru the Solola market, I am always amazed at how quiet and peaceful a crowd of Mayans can be.
